About me

Hello, and welcome to Frogonery Creations. I'm Jimmie R. Pennington I am a writer and self taught artist from the Appalachians of Kentucky.

I was born in Dayton, Ohio in the early 1950s, and was transplanted to the peaceful hills of Kentucky at the age of twelve. That was when I discovered the natural beauty of the rolling hills and hollows here, which inspired me to write about my new found home.

My writings have appeared in literary magazines and journals across the nation Most of the publications are collegiate literary publications. I have also had three books published. They include one poetry collection, MY KENTUCKY, Poems of earth and Home, a short youth oriented ghost mystery, THE HAUNTING OF SMITH ORCHARD, and a nonfiction work.

I began carving stone when I was well into my 50s, inspired by a late friend of mine. I use alabaster and soapstone to create my art. I usually carve images of small animals, reptiles, birds and other lil critters which scamper through the hills around me.

My stone art has been  and is displayed at The Kentucky Folk Art Center,  Morehead, Kentucky, The Kentucky Artisan Center, Berea, Kentucky and The Appalachian Artisan Center, Hindman,  Kentucky.

I hope ya'll enjoy visiting my site and drop back by from time to time as i will be adding more pages and images as times passes.
